Fairhope Elementary has been awarded the National Blue Ribbon School. On September 15 2009, the 2009 National Blue Ribbon Schools were announced by U. S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan. 314 public and private schools will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., November 2-3. The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private schools based on one of two criteria: 1) Schools whose students achieve in the top 10 percent of their state tests; and 2) Schools with at least 40 percent of their students demonstrate dramatic improvement of student performance.

Fairhope Elementary received the award for having over 40 percent of their students demonstrate dramatic improvement on the state tests. Each school will receive a plaque and a flag to signify their Blue Ribbon School status.
